Wallach Avner

Assistant Professor
History Highlights:
  • Avner Wallach is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Biology at the Technion and holds the David and Inez Myers Career Advancement Chair in Life Science. After working for a couple of years in the industry, Avner did his graduate studies in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the Technion, under the guidance of Profs. Ron Meir (Electrical Engineering) and Shimon Marom (Medicine). Held post-doctoral positions studying active sensing in rats and fish at the Weizmann Institute, University of Ottawa and Columbia University. Established a new technique for long-term recordings in freely swimming electric fish. Interested in using the tools and approaches of engineering to study how animals use their sensory and motor systems to understand the world and act within it.
Research Interests:
  • Sensorimotor Processing and Active Sensing
  • Neuroethology (the neural basis of natural behavior)
  • Spatial learning and navigation in living systems
